Sometimes customers don’t want to hear, “That’s old — just buy a new one.” That was exactly the case when this Vacon NXP 520A drive arrived at our workshop for repair. As the world continues to move toward a circular economy, it’s always worthwhile to assess whether a repair is viable — both financially and within the customer’s timeframe.

Given the age of this drive, this wasn’t a straightforward fix. After diagnosing the fault, our service engineers replaced the IGBTs, rectifiers, DC capacitors (believe it or not — the original capacitors from 2005!), and the busbar. Once static tests were completed, the drive successfully passed a full bench test and was reinstalled on site the following morning.
