JJ Loughran recently helped keep a large food processor running after a critical plant breakdown. Flange mounted inline motor and gearbox came in for an urgent repair, there was no manufacturers name plate on the unit and the original OEM (original machine manufacturer) no longer offered the unit as a spare.

Our customer asked us to design and build a new complete unit. Our technical engineering team along with our in house mechanical engineers swung into action; after dismantling gearbox and counting the ratio to determine output speed we then selected a suitable Motovario Parallel Shaft S102 50mm Gearbox @ 44:1 ratio with 300mm output flange and 1.50kw B5 IE3 ABB electric motor. All components directly from our stock.

We also had to design and manufacture a new bespoke 316 grade stainless steel gearbox output shaft to match the original application. We utilised a parallel shaft gearbox design instead of the original inline design to maximise flexibility in the future as the new stainless-steel shaft is now interchangeable between newer gearboxes unlike the old inline design.

As with all our food processor customers gearbox was supplied as standard with food safe oil. We also attended site to help our customers onsite engineers to fit and commission the new unit.

From receiving failed gearbox all works carried out on the same working day helping to minimise downtime.
